DIVesting the
UW-system

UWDC's first goal is to achieve divestment at UW-Madison, but students, alumni, and community members across the system are fighting for fossil fuel divestment and a just, sustainable reinvestment at nearly every UW campus.

FOLLOWing THE MONEY at UW-Madison

Here's something the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA) won't tell you when you donate to your alma mater—UW-Madison is strategically profiting off of the destruction of our planet and its people. As of 2018, the university had $124,785,961 invested in the fossil fuel industry.

The WFAA invests donations in fossil fuel stocks that generate additional revenue for the university.

The fossil fuel industry uses this money to expand their operations.

OUR DEMANDS

1. DIVEST. The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association must divest from all direct and indirect holdings in the fossil fuel industry, beginning immediately.

2. TELL THE TRUTH. The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association must report annually to the public about the process of these divestments.

3. REINVEST. The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association must leverage its financial power to support environmentally sustainable, socially responsible, and community-based investment. We call on the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association to work with students, alumni, and faculty to establish new reinvestment principles.
